Hotels Paris Bastille

The 11th is represented by the Bastille. The square named after it, has a monument celebrating the new-found freedom after the storming of the Bastille in 1789. If you are a little curious traveller, you will find very interesting streets with a special atmosphere. Walking here around, have a look to the church of Saint-Ambroise and St. Marguerite.

The Bastille has a lot of importance in French history. Louis XIV had the ramparts demolished but kept the Bastille as a luxury prison for people of quality. Promoted to the rank of a symbol of the arbitrariness of the old monarchy, the Bastille was stormed by the Parisians on 14th July 1789, and later razed. Today, the monument in the square has a column surmounted by the "Spirit of Liberty" in remembrance of the event.
