The 4th district is the heart of the famous "Le Marais". The main attraction of this area is without doubts, the imposing gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris. The famous writer Hugo was only 28 wrote his wonderful novel, "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame".
In this rich area you can find many interesting sights, museums (such as the "Centre National Pompidou - Beaubourg") and famous squares like the Place de Vosges and Place de la Bastille. The Colonne de Juillet that dominates Place de la Bastille is like a statue of Liberty. It marks the site of the prison known as the Bastille which was stormed by the Mob in 1789 at the start of the French Revolution.
